April 2017 Essential Oil Recipe Box from Simply Earth

April 3, 2017 By Alana 1 Comment

I arrived home from Hawaii to a nice surprise in the mail: the April 2017 Essential Oil Recipe Box from Simply Earth!

This Essential Oil Subscription Box features monthly DIY recipes for natural personal and household care. You'll gain confidence in making your own essential oil products for your family!

April’s theme is Spring Cleaning! I’ve made a basic natural all-purpose cleaner before, but am excited to expand my knowledge of DIY natural home cleaning products. This box has a bunch of new ideas that I never would have thought of on my own. The April 2017 box comes with four essential oils, several cleaning cloths, six recipes, spray bottles, and labels.

The essential oils for this month: Lemon, Tea Tree, Cinnamon Leaf and Balsam Fir.

I’ve used tea tree and lemon essential oils for cleaning, but the other two are completely new to me. This is something I love about the Essential Oil Recipe Box; it shows you new uses for oils you’re already familiar with, and also introduces you to new oils! To be honest, I had no idea how cinnamon leaf and balsam fir oils were going to relate to natural household cleaning, but I was excited to find out!

I flipped through the recipe booklet to see if there were any easy diffuser recipes I could try right away, since our apartment had been closed up for two weeks, and the Clean Air Diffuser Blend was perfect! Both cinnamon leaf and lemon oils are actually commonly used to cleanse and detoxify the air. There is a recipe for a similar room spray, which is meant to be mixed and stored in one of the spray bottles included. We’re keeping that on hand for the room where we keep Kramer’s litter box!

To get the most out of the recipes in this particular box, I recommend keeping baking soda and vinegar on hand, as they are needed in a few of the recipes. The most unique recipe has to be for garbage can pods. These little pods can be made in an ice cube tray (or use the silicone soap molds from last month’s essential oil box) and can put in indoor or outdoor garbage cans to disguise stinky smells. They feature the Balsam Fir Oil, which is a better option for garbage, versus a floral smell (which just isn’t realistic for garbage cans) in my opinion.

The last few recipes target areas of your home including tub and tile, wood furniture, and of course an all-purpose essential oil surface cleaner.

Finally, a little update from last month’s box featuring soap making. I made two more soaps with chia seeds plus my own blend of essential oils. The Essential Oil Recipe Box from Simply Earth really does build your confidence to experiment with essential oils on your own! 🙂
