Aaptiv has been keeping me on track while on vacation, so I figured I’d share my recent activity. We have access to a small condo-style gym at our vacation rental and I love that I can just show up, push play, and get a great workout in before our day starts. I highly recommend Aaptiv for business travelers and vacationers alike!
The Aaptiv fitness app is growing by leaps and bounds! They recently added six new trainers to the mix and new workouts seem to be popping up every day. Be sure to check out the information at the end of the post on getting a code for a free 30 day trial with Aaptiv!
I am having a blast trying out the new trainers and wanted to share a few of my new favorite classes with you. As I’ve mentioned before, I love the strength section because the workouts tend to not only include strength training, but cardio intervals as well. I love that I can get my heart rate up while working on my strength. These high intensity interval training classes make the time fly by and I’ve really noticed a difference in muscle definition. Especially in my shoulders!
Previously, the strength training section utilized only your body weight. Which is awesome, because the workouts could really be done anywhere as no equipment was needed. However, the app is now offering strength classes with dumb bells incorporated into the workouts. If dumb bells are needed for a specific class, it will be noted in the class summary so you’ll know before you push play. I usually keep two different pairs on hand so I can grab what I need depending on the exercise. Don’t worry if you don’t have any though, there are still plenty of new classes that do not require any weights.
My New Favorite Strength Training Classes in Aaptiv
Antidote – Sultan Malik
Sultan Malik is one of the newest trainers to Aaptiv and his enthusiasm is awesome. This workout is easy to follow and left me with some pretty sore legs! You’ll need at least one set of dumb bells for this workout. I actually used two different sets: 5 lbs and 10 lbs but you could get away with just a lighter set. PS: Keep your ears open for the dumb bell joke in this one.
Lower-Body HIIT – Amanda Murdock
High intensity interval training focused on the lower body. You’ll be doing squats, lunges, dead lifts, etc. The twist here is Amanda has you focus on one leg at a time. No weights needed for this one, your body weight is enough. I love workouts where I can get my strength training and cardio done in just 30 minutes. Plus, you’ll get Beyonce and Jay-Z if you care. 🙂
Agility Drills & Plyos – Megan Takacs
Oh boy, this one is a must do. I am going to include it in my weekly rotation moving forward. It’s such a fantastic agility and metabolic workout. It’s EMOM style (every minute on the minute) featuring jump squats, burpees, planks, leaps, etc! There is a solid break between the two sets, so don’t be afraid to push yourself hard during the first set.
Give Me the Light – Sultan Malik
This is a total body workout – think squats, pushups and core exercises. The squats and pushups aren’t the classic ones you first think of, which keeps the workout engaging. I’d try pairing this with a run or spin session, or add on the 10 Minute Insanity workout below!
Can You Survive? – Meghan Takacs
The name of the workout should have been warning, right? This is a great workout to test your mental toughness. It features both AMRAP and EMOM sets to mimic the dynamic conditions of an outdoor run. I wasn’t able to quite get through the AMRAP on my initial try, but that only fuels to me keep working at it. I followed this up with an incline walk as suggested by Meghan.
Metabolic Total Body – Meghan Takacs
I woke up to some pretty sore quads and lower body in general after this workout. You’ll come across some great lower body and core moves, plus a few different “styles” of moves to keep things interesting. Super workout in just 30 minutes!
If you need a quick add-on to another workout:
10 Minute Insanity – Meghan Takacs
If you’re doing your own thing and want a quick way to get your heart rate up, check out this one. Burpee, squat, and pushup your way to the end. Be sure to let the workout play all the way through, so you don’t miss the finisher!
Finally, I am loving the stretching prompts immediately after finishing a class. I know stretching is important, but I often find myself skimping in that department.
Aaptiv now prompts you to take a stretching class that compliments the workout you finished, each stretch session is between 5-10 minutes. I am challenging myself to select “yes, I want to to stretch” every time for next month. Hopefully it becomes a habit for me.
