Happy summer! I can’t believe the 4th of July has come and gone already. Summer is flying (as it always does) and we’re loving every minute of it. Those of you who also suffer from experience a snowy and cold winter can appreciate our eagerness to get the most out of these limited sunny and warm days.
Summer in Wisconsin is full of festivals, cook-outs, weekends at the lake and plenty of patio dining. We’re being treated to a pretty mild summer in our part of the midwest and have been spending as much time outdoors as possible.
Since Matt and I are currently working from home, we have been able to fit a lot of things we’ve wanted to do for many summers.
We spent an afternoon picking strawberries followed by some relaxing beers and fish tacos on the patio of our new favorite restaurant.
I took Matt out to the beautiful Dells of the Eau Claire, a place I hadn’t been since a high school. We also hiked up and down Rib Mountain State Park.
We invited our parents to a Pizza on the Farm night at Stoney Acres.
Plus, we have had plenty of time to experiment in the kitchen. From tibicos (water kefir) to sauerkraut and even sourdough bread, we’ve got some delicious recipes in the works and are looking forward to sharing them with you.
Though it feels like summer is half over, we have a lot to look forward to for the rest of July and August. There are birthdays, weddings and babies to celebrate. Ripe berries and crisp veggies to eat. We also have a fun Northwoods cabin getaway coming up at the end of July!
Finally, I want to share some things I’m lovin’ around the web lately!
- I came across these earrings when browsing through the Hope for Martin Instagram Fundraiser benefiting Emily from The Freckled Fox. They’d make a beautiful gift!
- The on-demand workouts from Skyfit! I’ve been looking for a workout app that would tell me what to do through my headphones. So many of them are video based or require you to look at the screen to see what you are supposed to do. This one is completely audio based and there are a tons of different classes to chose from. They have treadmill and elliptical classes for the gym, indoor cycling and yoga you can do at home. They even have outdoor running classes. Personally, I love the treadmill workouts. I can never push myself when in comes to running. In fact, until I downloaded this app the longest I’ve ever run was 18 minutes and that was once, when I was 23. My first workout had me going for almost 25 minutes straight (about 2.5miles). What?!?! Yes, I know for many of you that is a slow place but for this non-runner, I as pretty proud of myself. I never dreamed I could do it. Just when I had my finger on the speed button to quit the coach pushed me to keep going. Skyfit offers unlimited classes for $9.99/month or $49.99/year and there is a free 7 day trial. EDITED 9/13: I am officially a Skyfit Ambassador! As part of my ambassadorship I have a code that offers you a free 30 day trial! Use Code: ALANAELDERBROOKCLUB. Here are instructions for redeeming your free 30 day Skyfit trial.
- Our parents are both growing copious amounts of kale so I’ve been search for salad ideas. I love this chopped greek kale salad. The homemade dressing makes it not taste like kale, which is awesome. 😉
- And finally, have you heard of Charlie Oxford? I found him on a pre-made Spotify playlist and I’m hooked. He’s a little bluesy and a little rocky and perfect for nights on the patio. I especially like “Drive Me Crazy”.
Until next time!
-Alana
