Weekend Happenings

January 8, 2017 By Matt & Alana Leave a Comment

Hello and happy second week of January!

We kicked off the weekend with the smell of freshly baked bread in the apartment. It might not be pretty but it tasted delicious!

We had fun Saturday here in the frozen tundra as we celebrated Christmas. Well, at the least the gifting part of Christmas. Matt’s sister and her husband were unable to join us for actual Christmas this year so we postponed gifts until this weekend. We started doing a “Secret Santa” exchange 4-5 years ago and it’s become a fun tradition. We draw names at Thanksgiving so we’ve been keeping our secrets for quite awhile!

This year we decided to change it up a bit. While we still gave a gift, we have also decided to give a donation to a non-profit in honor of our gift recipient. It was fun to go around and find out who had who and hear what organization they chose for their recipient. Matt actually drew my name this year and made a donation to a local feral cat rescue which I loved as that is how we found our kitty, Kramer. Matt’s brother drew his name and made a donation to the Concussion Legacy Foundation which supports research and public education programs for sports-related head injuries. Each donation was special and meaningful. A nice addition to our celebration.

We spent the rest of the time playing cards, eating, drinking and enjoying each other’s company.

The Wisconsin Dells area is only about an hour away from us so the location was super convenient. Even more so because we were able to stop and fill up our bottles with spring water on the way home. We are lucky enough to live less than a hour from a spring water source that we found on the Find a Spring website. If you’re a fellow fermenter you know how nice it is to have access to spring water. No boiling or filtering necessary when you use it in your fermentation projects. We really need to invest in a bigger refillable jug! This spring is well looked after and there is even a small parking area.

After several days of -10-20 degree wind chills, we’re looking forward to thawing out a bit around here this week! Hope you have a good one!

Ps. How about those Green Bay Packers?!
